FIT Club begins new accountability program on campus
Lee’s Forever In Training (FIT) Club has introduced a new accountability program that focuses on encouraging students to reach their fitness goals through communal encouragement.
“It’s for any goal you want to be held accountable for,” said Jarrett Jacobs, a senior general music major and the president of FIT Club. “Especially being a new year, it’s 2020. Let’s get those resolutions done.”
Goals vary from gaining muscle and strengthening cardio to being more consistent with meal prepping. This well-rounded program encourages students to rely upon one another for help through encouragement and accountability.
“Joining FIT Club started out as a ‘major obligation’ for me since the club was exclusively for those pursuing a health, exercise science or secondary education degree. The club recognized a need for health advocates in the Lee community and decided to transition into a club open for all students.” said alumna and previous FIT Club President, Nae Cummings.
This transition has brought students from different backgrounds, fields of study and communities together to encourage one another to live healthy lifestyles.
Senior exercise science major and former FIT Club President Chipper Smith emphasized the necessity for an accountability program on campus for all skill levels and goals.
“Health and fitness are things that apply to every person, regardless of prior experience or level of expertise,” Smith said. “The key is knowing your current lifestyle habits and finding people who will assist you in getting to where you want to be.”
FIT Club offers help with setting goals and finding support through educational seminars, fitness workshops and event partnerships with the DeVos Recreational Center.
FIT Club meets biweekly on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Helen DeVos Education building in room 124. For more information contact Jarrett Jacobs at jjacob01@leeu.edu.
