Tap Night traditions return

Tap Night traditions return

The tradition of Lee’s Greek life induction returned to normal protocol on Thursday, Jan. 20, as club members tapped new inductees on the Ped Mall and inside the Deacon Jones Dining Hall.

Greek clubs welcomed new members with numerous long-established traditions unique to each club. One of the many traditions of the night included a celebratory entrance into the cafeteria.

“It is a pretty big tap for a guys club,” said senior marketing major and Upsilon Xi member Ethan Fultz. “We have 11 guys, and it has been a lot of prayer, and a real spiritual journey the last couple weeks, preparing for them. We are super excited to get these guys.”

“We’re really excited to be back in the Caf because it is a really fun atmosphere, and we haven’t been able to be here for a while since COVID,” said senior marketing major and Omega Alpha Phi member Claire Slotsema. “We are very prayerful over these girls, and that we can lead them closer to Jesus, pull out some of their strengths and welcome them into a really great community.”

“Because we are so small, we have been running all over the place and getting to know all these new girls in such a short period of time,” said sophomore elementary education major and Vice President of Phi Chi Gamma, Sarah MacDonald. “I am really excited for this new tap. They all are really sweet, so I am excited for them to be able to be a part of this.”

“I am really thankful for the club that has trusted me with this position,”  said junior healthcare administration major and Delta Zeta Tau co-induction chair Hannah Hawkins. “It is a real honor to represent the letters at all, and the sisterhood. Trusted with a big position like this, it is a lot of responsibility and I don’t take it lightly. I am really thankful. We are going to have a good time, and at the end of the day, I am your friend.”

“I am excited these girls are going to experience the club that I got to experience in the induction process,” said senior nursing major and Vice President of Epsilon Lambda Phi, Ciera Smidt. “Obviously, we are going to try to be safe throughout this induction, but we are back to our old induction plans.”
