Noble Sets Two NCAA Division II Records At BU Last Chance Meet
Lee University's Christian Noble set two NCAA Division II records Sunday afternoon at the 2022 Boston University Last Chance Meet. The Flames also met the NCAA DII provisional mark in three other events.
Noble finished eighth overall in the 1 Mile Run. He completed the race at 3:56.10 to break the DII record of 3:56.74 that was set by Kip Cheruiyot of Mount St. Mary's on January 18, 1986. The time also lowered his Lee record from 4:00.60 that he ran on January 16 at the UAB Vulcan Invite. Carson Bix recorded a time of 4:07.24 to finish thirtieth.
"Christian's major goal going into this season was to break the DII mile record," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "He truly dominated his heat and looked very in control."
Ninety minutes after setting a new divisional record in the mile, Noble was taking aim at his own DII record of 7:51.46 in the 3000 Meter Run. He crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 7:50.98.
"The 3k record was a surprise. We went into the competition just wanting to get a hard effort in with the quick turnaround after the mile to simulate back-to-back hard efforts for nationals. Once he got into the race, he ended up feeling good and knew he was within striking distance the last 400 meters and went for it."
Titus Lagat finished eleventh in the 800 Meter Run. He stopped the clock at 1:50.29 to knock 0.56 seconds off his own Lee record. The time met the provisional mark and is the 14th-fastest time in Division II this season.
The 4x400 Meter Relay team of Nokia Masengu, Wynand Du Toit, Lagat and Jeremiah McCain placed second with a combined time of 3:15.50. The time met the provisional time and set the foursome at No. 30 on the indoor performance list.
McCain added another provisional performance in the 400 Meter Run. His time of 47.93 seconds was good for second place and No. 20 this season among DII competitors.
Silusapho Dingiswayo competed in the 60 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash. At the 60-meter distance he advanced out of the preliminary round with a time of 6.96. In the final, he posted a second-place finish with a time of 6.94. He placed seventh in the 200 with a stoppage of 21.81 seconds.
Gift Nkosi was the lone Lee athlete in a field event. He claimed third place with a measurement of 14.72 meters in the Triple Jump.
"We had a very productive final weekend of competition. We set ourselves up well going into Tuesday's selection," concluded Morgan.
