Lee launches first university-based graduate expo
Lee’s Graduate Enrollment program is hosting the first-ever Lee-based graduate expo titled “Grad Expo: Master the Possibilities and Beyond” this Wednesday, Feb. 5 in the School of Business lobby.
Dr. Jeff McGirt, director of Graduate Enrollment, said the fair’s intention is to inform students about Lee’s grad school options and opportunities.
“The goal is to provide students information about the possibilities of grad school at Lee University,” McGirt said. “There are a lot of new things that people might not be aware of, so the goal is to get the information out there.”
Currently, Lee has 23 graduate and doctoral programs that will be showcased during this event. It will also provide opportunities for students to learn more about the university’s two upcoming doctoral programs within education and counseling.
These new programs, Ed.D. in professional practice and Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy, are projected to start this fall, pending SACSCOC approval.
McGirt said a variety of scholarships will be available from various departments across Lee’s campus, including a newly offered graduate legacy scholarship.
“The [objective] is to tell them about the legacy scholarship that is available to grad students that equals $1,000 per semester for two years,” McGirt said.
This expo will also allow students the chance to meet with each department’s graduate secretary to learn about their options after graduation.
Current grad student Whitney Thompson said the connections she has made within the program are some of her favorite parts of graduate school.
“What I have enjoyed the most is the connection I have gained between my classmates,” Thompson said. “As a grad student, you don’t necessarily think you are going to make those connections, but it has been different here.”
“Grad Expo: Master the Possibilities and Beyond” is open to all Lee students in the School of Business Lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 5.
