'Lee Day Live' connects prospective students to campus virtually
While all events on Lee’s campus have been canceled for the remainder of the semester in response to COVID-19, prospective students participated in Lee Day Live this past weekend — a virtual take on the long-awaited yearly event.
After being pushed back from the original Lee Day weekend date on April 3-4, Lee decided to implement the weekend online to connect prospective students and families to campus from their own homes.
“Even though we are using a new format, Lee Day Live promises to give prospective students and their families the best possible look into life at Lee and to answer their important questions,” said President Paul Conn.
In coordination with Lee’s Media Services Team, senior journalism major Joannah Beckler and Lee alumnus Jonathan Bouvier guided students via Instagram videos throughout the weekend.
“Over the next two days [students will] have the opportunity to participate in advanced class selection, ask questions about financial aid and earn some… prizes along the way, including scholarships and Amazon gift cards,” said Bouvier.
For many students, Lee Day symbolizes a cornerstone in their journey to attending Lee, as the experiences and opportunities presented throughout the weekend have helped students to better acclimate to campus.
“Lee Day convinced me that I was choosing the right college,” said freshman biology major Anna Jackson. “After talking with current students, I could see myself being in their shoes one day.”
As current and future students look forward to the fall semester and being back on campus, Conn encourages students to continue to “expect something great.”
“God has promised you a life of fullness and joy and purpose, and God will bring that into your life you follow him,” said Conn. “Don’t just expect to survive college, expect to do something great in college and past college. Expect something great from Lee; hold us accountable. We are describing a pretty special place… I think students and their families can expect something great from Lee and expect something great from themselves.”
