Candidate Profile: Donald Trump
President Donald J. Trump is now the only remaining Republican candidate for the 2020 election. The New York-born real-estate mogul is now a front-running presidential candidate as he seeks a second term.
Trump was born and raised in Queens, New York, where he spent his childhood and early life. At age 13, his parents sent him to the New York Military Academy, where he graduated in 1964. Trump furthered his education at Fordham University and later transferred to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an economics degree in 1968.
Trump published best-selling books, hosted reality television shows and created a real-estate empire before running for president in 2015. The Republican candidate stepped into the political scene with his infamous slogan “Make American Great Again,” encompassing his numerous pledges to improve the nation.
Trump plans to further his pledge in his 2020 presidential campaign. As a conservative Republican, he is pro-life, supports second amendment rights and has specific plans to improve the economy.
Trump declared his 2020 presidential campaign within months of claiming office in 2016. During his victory speech, he reiterated his ideas of a greater America.
“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans,” Trump said. “As I’ve said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign, but rather an incredible and great movement made up of millions of hard-working men and women who love their country and want a better, brighter future for themselves and for their families.”
