1. Atatiana Jefferson’s father dies of a heart attack
The father of Atatiana Jefferson, a Black woman who was shot dead by police inside her home in Texas, has died from a heart attack.

Marquis Jefferson, the father of Atatiana Jefferson, died from a heart attack Saturday evening.
According to AP News, Marquis “just couldn’t get back from what happened with his daughter.”
Atatiana was fatally shot less than a month ago by a police officer in her home.
2. International community marks Berlin Wall anniversary
Saturday marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The historic fall led to the decrease of communism in parts of Eastern Europe.
A ceremony was held on Saturday at the site of the Berlin Wall, with leaders from “Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic,” according to AP News. The leaders gave speeches on the historic defeat of the wall.
“It teaches us: No wall that keeps people out and restricts freedom is so high or so wide that it can’t be broken down,” said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to AP News.
3. First Hispanic immigrant in the running for US Catholic leadership
Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez is the first Hispanic immigrant in the running to lead the Bishops’ National Conference. The conference, which brings together all U.S. Catholic bishops, has Gomez in the lead to become the next president.
Gomez spoke out after the shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and wrote a “blog post condemning white supremacy,” according to AP News. His presidency would be a new milestone for the Bishops’ National Conference.
