Lee University now offers nursing doctoral program
This semester, Lee University unveiled its first doctoral program.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program is the latest nursing degree program offered by Lee, in addition to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, which has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Lee’s School of Nursing doctoral program received approval from The TN Board of Nursing and Schools of Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Sophomore nursing major Alexis Carmen believes the new program will be a good draw for Lee.
“More people would definitely come to Lee because there is more advancement,” Carmen said. “Knowing that we have a nursing doctoral program is more of an emphasis to keep our school growing.”
Carmen mentioned her post-graduate plans in light of the program’s creation. “I would definitely come back, if I wanted to be a midwife,” Carmen said.
Sophomore Amy Simpson said the faculty and community within the nursing program make it stand out from other schools.
“We’re different because we look at it in a holistic point of view,” Simpson said. “We look at mind, body and spirit. We focus on the spirit and not focus just on what’s wrong with them physically, but that there could be emotional things going on.”
Simpson believes Lee’s tightly-knit nursing community could be attractive to new students.
“Because it is a smaller, new and upcoming program, you know most of everybody,” Simpson said. “To have that interaction, there is always somebody you can go to when you need help.”
Freshman Erica Piña has a similar view of the uniqueness of Lee’s nursing program.
“At Lee, you can apply your faith,” Piña said.
Besides the the two nursing degree programs, Lee offers non-nursing bachelor's degrees in Disaster and Healthcare Mission Management (DHMM).
