Lee to host annual alumni baseball game for Homecoming
The annual alumni baseball game will take place this weekend as Lee hosts Homecoming 2019. The alumni game will take place at Olympic Field and will include a home run derby. This event is a highlight of homecoming weekend for coaches and players both past and present.
The annual event is open to all baseball alumni — everyone from recent graduates to players who started with the program will be celebrated. Head baseball coach Mark Brew has put on the alumni game each year since he first began at Lee in 2016.
“It’s always great to connect with those guys I haven’t seen in a while,” said Brew. “Getting to catch up on family and what they are doing now is always exciting. These guys will bring up funny stories I had forgotten about long ago.”
The event is also anticipated by current players, as it gives them a chance to meet alumni and hear stories from earlier in the baseball program’s history. Senior Ryan Beamish looks forward to hearing the stories about the baseball program and its players of days past.
“You go and talk about the old games they played and the important moments they had in their careers,” said Beamish. “It’s not just about baseball, but you also see how they got here and how their lives have been since then.”
This part of the event is also a favorite of Coach Brew, who enjoys seeing the former players return.
“Always reminiscing about the past is a favorite for me,” said Brew. “To catch up and see all these guys as husbands and fathers makes it really fun for our coaching staff and current team.”
The alumni game will give many former players their first look at the brand new Larry Carpenter Stadium at Olympic Field. The event will take place on Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. All former players and coaches are welcome to attend.
