Lady Flames finish third at 2019 Golfweek Invitational
The Lee University women's golf team recently played its third invitational of the fall season, placing fourth in the 2019 Golfweek Division II Invitational in Florida.
“I think that there is a lot of room for improvement and I think that we all are just striving and expecting more this year,” said senior Haverly Harrold, captain of the women’s golf team.
The Lady Flames golf team is ranked No. 14 nationally. However, the team does not feel the pressure of being nationally ranked, thinking of it as an incentive to constantly improve.
“I don't think that any of us really think about the pressures of being ranked,” said Harrold. “All that we try to really focus on is doing our best each and every day.”
Sophomore Emily Felix had a strong outing this past week at the invitational, finishing among the top five. She shot rounds of 75 and 74 that tied her for fifth place. Harrold tied for 13th with an even par in the final round to pair with the 79 she shot on Monday.
“Emily had a good tournament for us. I thought a top 5 finish in that field was a strong showing,” said Head Coach John Maupin.
The Lady Flames are preparing for their next tournament, the last of the fall season. Heading into this final tournament, the team is hoping to improve and come out with a victory.
“I think our expectation is always that we want to win the tournament, no matter what. But after that, you really have to think about what you need to do in order to make that a reality,” said Maupin. “My first expectation is that we prepare really well over the next few days, and my second expectation is that we play with great focus and confidence on each shot. I think if we do that then we have a great chance to win the tournament.”
