Convocation preview: Horizon

Convocation preview: Horizon

Fall Convocation is set to begin this Sunday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. President Paul Conn is the first of several speakers to begin the series entitled “Horizon.”

“Convocation is one of the most important aspects of the Lee University experience,” said Rob Fultz, Lee’s campus pastor. “It centers our hearts and minds, helping us move toward a common goal and common vision.”

Vice President for Student Development Mike Hayes said that thoughtful consideration is given to the lineup of speakers during such an important week for the university.

“We’ve worked hard to diversify the lineup both in terms of race and ethnicity and gender to make sure that it’s representative of our student body,” Hayes said.

Following Dr. Conn on Monday evening is Lee alumnus Kevin McGlamery, lead pastor of Life Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

Services will continue Tuesday morning with Kay Warren in the Conn Center and Dr. Justin Walker in the Dixon Center.

Pastor Eliezer Bonilla of Abundant Life Church in San Antonio, Texas will speak on Tuesday evening.

Campus Pastor Rob Fultz will conclude the evening portion of Convocation on Wednesday night.

Convocation will conclude with a morning of worship on Thursday with singer-songwriter Christy Nockels in the Conn Center. According to her website, Nockels’ experience includes “seven years traveling worldwide with Passion Conferences and Chris Tomlin.”

Fultz said that the university is excited to begin pursuing this “loose theme of pursuing the horizon” as Lee evolves and grows in a new direction.

“Each speaker has such a unique perspective,” Fultz said. “These speakers bring their own stories, their own narratives into this whole idea of pursuing the horizon.”

Head Chapel Usher Justin Brooks said he has seen the dedication and passion required to see that Convocation is executed successfully.

“I have been able to see how hard so many people work just to provide students on  campus with an opportunity to encounter God each night,” Brooks said. “I have been able to see just how much the staff and school really do care about the students’ spiritual life and want to give us the chance to make it the best that it can be.”

Everyone is welcome to Convocation this Sunday through Thursday. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and worship begins at 7:30 p.m. Chapel hours will proceed normally.

Services will be available for livestream viewing at https://livestream.com/leeu.
