This weekend you can laugh along and enjoy the comic opera 'The Mikado' presented by the Lee University Opera Theatre.
The famous satire, written by Gilbert and Sullivan, is set in the fictional town of Titipu, Japan. With characters such as Nanki-Poo, Koko, Poohbah and Yum-Yum, the opera is a critique of Gilbert's 1800's London, while using the backdrop of exotic Eastern culture.
However, the relevance of the sharp-witted comedy doesn't end in 19th century London.
Director James Frost said to the Cleveland Daily Banner 'The Mikado' was chosen as this year's opera because the issues in the show still resonate in contemporary American society.
"We are bringing 'The Mikado' into a very theatrical setting, illustrating contemporary American issues. These issues confront the audience on a rational and conscious level,' Frost said to the Banner.
'The Mikado' will run from Feb. 25-27. Tickets are available through the Dixon Center Box Office, Monday-Friday 3-6 p.m., or one hour before showtime. For more information call 423-614-8343.
