Harvard University offers free online class series to increase religious literacy

Harvard University is launching a free online class series in order to help increase religious literacy.

Registration for each religion course can be found here.

Lee University's required religion courses provide a good foundation for students to gain a basic understanding of Christian theology. Those interested in learning about the four other major religions practiced in America can register online for the new series of courses offered by Harvard University.

The courses include a general overview, as well as more detailed education on Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.

Junior Miguel LaVacca plans to register for the courses.

'Religious literacy ' empowers us to better understand the histories and adversities facing others around the world," LaVacca said.

According to the introduction listed on the online course page, the class is oriented to inform learners about the internal diversity of each religion in order to increase understanding of other backgrounds.

Each course offered in the series is a great resource for curious students who wish to learn more about religion and the internal variations within each one.

The series will include six different classes, each running for four weeks.

The first course in the series, "Traditions and Scriptures," is about the "rich and complex ways that religions function in historic and contemporary contexts." It begins March 1.
