Lee Nursing Students Receive Tennova Scholarship
Five nursing majors from Lee University’s School of Nursing have been named the first recipients of the Tennova Scholars Program and include rising juniors Sarah Cate, Emony Kemp, Emma Miles, Noah New, and Emma White.
“Our students will benefit from both the financial support and mentoring they will enjoy during their transition into professional practice,” said Dr. Amy Jo Perry, dean of the School of Nursing. “Tennova Cleveland will benefit by gaining exceptional nurses, and Lee benefits by expanding our essential community partnerships. We look forward to seeing how this program continues to grow.”
Each student will receive $7,500 every semester for a total award of $30,000 in exchange for a commitment to work as a nurse at Tennova for two years after graduation.
“Before coming to Lee, the Lord confirmed my calling in nursing and promised that provision would come when I needed it,” said Kemp. “This scholarship has increased my faith by providing an amazing opportunity for a guided transition into a truly wonderful hospital.”
This year the Tennova Scholars Program was open for junior and senior nursing students to apply. Nurse leaders from Tennova interviewed the applicants and selected five students for this first cohort of Tennova Scholars this year. According to Perry, they hope to expand this program to freshmen in the future.
“It is such an honor to partner with Lee University, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this program on the community of Cleveland,” said Kimberly Reddish, chief nursing officer for Tennova Cleveland. “These students, and all of the nursing students at Lee, play such a significant role in improving the health of our community and neighbors.”
