Lee University's Mock Trial to host showcase
Lee Univeristy’s Mock Trial will host a mock trial showcase of the case Ari Felder, as the Surviving Spouse of Morgan Felder v. Koller Campbell Air, LLC (2023) on April 5.
Mock Trial takes fake cases and acts them out as if it were a real trial in a real courtroom.
“Mock Trial is a court simulation with a flair. Essentially at the beginning of last season we were given a civil case of a plane crash. We look at the case from the defense side of the case and then look at it from the prosecution (or in this case Plaintiff) point of view. We act out the witnesses we were given and argue both sides of the case as an attorney,” said Camden Greene, vice president of Lee University’s Mock Trial club.
Lee Univeristy’s Mock Trial has two teams, the Maroon team and the Navy team. Both teams have captains who lead their teams in trials as well as a leadership team consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
The Mock Trial club has been relatively small and not many other teams may have known about them, but this past year they have grown through the American Mock Trial Association by competing in “elite tournaments,” according to the president of Mock Trial.
“This event is an opportunity for individuals on campus – students, professors, and administration – to see the sport in action. We will be presenting a simulation of an actual mock trial round, so it will include attorneys, witnesses, and even a judge. The specific case we are arguing pertains to an inexperienced and negligent pilot flying and eventually crashing an aircraft, leading to the death of the person in the cockpit,” said Paul Atherton, president of Mock Trial.
This trial will take place on Wednesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. in the Humanities Lecture Hall. For any questions about applying or information about Mock Trial, email mocktrial@leeuniversity.edu.
