LEAP hosts their first Latte in the Library of spring semester
LEAP continues their long standing tradition of hosting Latte in the Library in collaboration with the Squires Library on campus.
Dr. La-Juan Bradford, director of Academic Support and accomplished ASL professor will be speaking at the event.
LEAP (Learn Engage Achieve Program) is a scholarship program on campus that works with first generation college students, income qualifying students and students with disabilities to provide financial support as well as resources to equip them for success inside and outside of the classroom.
Latte in the Library presents students with a unique opportunity to learn about their professors as people and not just educators.
“It allows the students to get to see that professor in a more personal and different light,” said Dawn Bixler, Public Services Coordinator for Squires Library.
Dr. Waltrip, director of LEAP said the purpose of Latte in the Library is for students to “hear from professors in a venue outside of the classroom to learn how they navigated some of life's challenges.”
This event is not limited to students in the LEAP program but welcomes all students to come and hear from one of their professors.
“I think it can be very beneficial for students because life happens to all of us and it’s important to see healthy ways we can come back stronger in our faith and our character,” said LEAP student, Aidan Giavelli.
Latte in the Library also provides the chance for a professor to have a positive impact on a student they might have never encountered within their own department.
“I know I’ve been able to take away a good amount from each speaker I’ve seen, but mostly is the reassurance aspect. Life can be very unpredictable and sudden, so being able to learn about how the speakers dealt with obstacles has helped me apply similar logic to turbulent situations in my own life,” Giavelli said..
Latte in the Library is on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m. with free lattes available for all those who come to the program at Squires Library.
