Lady Flames soccer remains unbeaten With 10-0 victory
CLEVELAND, Tenn.-The Lee women’s soccer team celebrated Kickin It For Kids With Cancer evening by coasting to a 10-0 victory over visiting Shorter University at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Friday evening. The margin of victory ties the largest ever over the Shorter women. The Lady Flames unbeaten mark improves to 8-0-3 and 6-0-1 in GSC play. The Hawks dropped to 1-10, 0-7.
Eight different Lady Flames scored goals in the win. Grace Berry got the party started in the 9th minute (9:41) with her fifth goal of the year that was assisted by Regan Henkey. It was her first assist of the season. Alaysia Nye tallied a goal in the 22nd minute. It was her team-leading ninth goal. The assist came by Nora Burton, her third.
Lee continued to pick up speed the remainder of the first half by scoring four more goals and leading 6-0 at the break. Sydnee Duncan registered the first of her two goals on the evening. The first came in the 28thminute, her fourth goal. Berry was credited with the assist, her fifth. Duncan waited until the 66th minute in the second stanza to score again. Her fifth goal was unassisted.
Freshman Amelya Jacobs hit the jackpot on the evening. She totaled three scores, her fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the year. The first two were unassisted and came in the 30th and 37th minute of the first half. Her final tally was recorded in the 71st minute and was assisted by Duncan who closed the evening with an assist and has two on the year.
Tatum Miller got into the scoring act in the 44th minute of the opening frame and later came back with another in the 75th minute. She has recorded six goals this season. Ashley Eulo got an assist on the first goal, her fifth. Jacobs and Mallory Miller collected assists on the second score. It was Miller’s second assist of the year. Kate Dirkse got on the board in the 56th minute on a penalty kick. She stepped up to nail her fifth goal this year.
The Lady Flames fired 36 shots and placed 18 on goal. Shorter goalkeepers Reagan Clough and Tarah Taylor were kept busy. Clough allowed six goals and had one save. Taylor pulled down seven saves and allowed four scores. Lee keepers Josie Taylor and Abby Whitcomb got plenty of rest as the Lee defenders allowed the Hawks only one shot the entire evening, none were on goal. Lee had seven corner kicks and Shorter none. The Lady Flames had 11 fouls and the Hawks eight.
