On April 20, 2023, Honors Chapel celebrated graduating seniors who exemplified success throughout their college career.

This annual chapel is a time set aside to acknowledge the efforts of seniors who have exceeded academically, holding a grade point average of a 3.7 or higher and will receive the accomplishment of graduating with honors.

Recognized students are nominated by their department faculty.

“We're really proud of all of our graduates. We want them to do well and we want them to represent Lee and to represent Jesus Christ,” said Dr. Debbie Murray, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

After years of working hard to be celebrated as an honors student, many seniors reflect on their time at Lee as graduation is soon approaching.

“I'm gonna miss our just the relationships that I formed and like the mentorships with professors and friendships that have just really meant so much to me. I feel like every person I've met here at Lee has helped me to shape me into the person that I am today and I've grown so much over four years,” said Ashley Mills, senior music and voice major and honors candidate.

To many, Lee can be seen as a university that emphasizes community.

“Many schools have majors, classes, internship opportunities, recreational activities, and clubs that mirror their Lee equivalents. What distinguishes our university is the community students share with their professors, their peers, and their administrators,” said Casson Hughes, junior Biblical and theology studies major and honors candidate. “Empowered by the Spirit, this community makes for an environment where students can find intellectual and spiritual formation at every corner!”

“I’m honored to be counted among such high achieving students here at Lee. It was gratifying to be able to look back on 4 years of hard work and see where I am now. I’m very thankful,” said Payton Altman, senior music business major and honors candidate.

Honors Chapel has been annual tradition at Lee University for many years as students are celebrated in their accomplishments before graduating and taking their success into life after college.

“Remember those lessons that you learned while you're at Lee. They might have been in the classroom, they might have been social interactions, they might have been in mentoring situations with your faculty or other people. Take advantage of what you learned and apply it wherever you go,” said Murray.
