Carbaugh's career day leads Lady Flames past Montevallo
Morgan Carbaugh’s first career double-double told the story for the Lee women’s basketball team Saturday, Jan. 21, as they handled Montevallo 78-47.
Carbaugh, a senior wing, put up a statline of 11 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Hannah Garrett’s 18 points on an efficient 8-of-12 from the field led the Lady Flames in scoring, while Mallory Hampton chipped in 11 points, five assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Fifth-year senior and veteran leader Haley Schubert dropped 11 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Mia Hurst added 12 points and a couple of three-pointers off the bench.
In the contest, Lee led 18-8 after one quarter, and steadily built their lead the rest of the way. The lead grew as large as 37 in the blowout victory.
Lee’s defense held Montevallo to just 11-of-30 from inside the arc and 3-of-25 from three-point territory. 25% shooting by Montevallo is the lowest efficiency (from the field) the Lady Flames have allowed all year. Lee held Montevallo scoreless for nearly 10 minutes of game-time, increasing their lead from 21 to 37 with a 16-to-zero scoring run.
Improving to 16-3 on the season, Lee holds a two-game advantage over second place in the Gulf South Conference standings.
The Lady Flames will return to action Thursday, Jan. 26, in Walker Arena for a high-stakes conference battle with West Alabama. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
