Tap Night: A Thrilling Tradition
Lee University Greek Clubs gathered together Thursday to host their traditional Tap Night, a campus wide event where clubs welcome their new members. Every semester, each Greek Club brings their new tap members to the Deacon Jones Dining Hall where they begin tapping auxiliary members to join their communities.
Tap Night is one of Greek Life’s trademark events since their beginnings at Lee. This semester, the clubs continued their historical legacy with a night of celebrating both new and old members.
“I am excited tonight for thrills of future memories to come,” said Jack Goins, member of Theta Delta Kappa.
Tap Night is a special night as new members are welcomed into the clubs. “I am excited to see guys get to experience the club and why [we are a part of it]. I am ready for the guys to learn lessons and how it relates to scripture,” said Austin Arnold, member of Upsilon Xi.
While new members are preparing for induction weekend, existing members are awaiting the exhilarating atmosphere of the Dining Hall.
“I am most excited to see the auxiliary members tapped,” said Landon Pearson, member of Tau Kappa Omega. “It is a fun chaos.”
“I was convinced I did not get it,” said Lizzie Goggins, member of Sigma Nu Sigma concerning being tapped into Upsilon Xi. “It is so crazy.”
Auxiliary member taps give the opportunity to participate in Greek Life across clubs.
“I love to see the faces of all the Greek Clubs together, not just Omega together,” said Kaylee Harrah, member of Omega Alpha Phi.
Tap Night is a place for fun memories to be made.
“Tap Night is such a fun event because there is so much excitement on campus and I love an opportunity to dress up,” said Emma Fulson, member of Phi Chi Gamma.
“I am excited about being able to physically see these girls' prayers answered and [for them] to understand this community,” said Jocelyne Espinal, member of Delta Zeta Tau.
“It is always [exciting] bringing in new members and the experience of asking new guys into the club. It is always an exhilarating experience. It’s never changed and never will,” said Pi Kappa Pi member, Ruben Lavariega.
“I am excited for the new girls to see the heart of Epsilon,” said Hannah Close, member of Epsilon Lambda Phi. “And experience the club.”
Micah Hughes, member of Alpha Gamma Chi, explains what it means to be a part of Lee’s legendary night for Greek Life. “I get to be around guys I love and welcome [new] guys into the brotherhood that is Alpha Gamma Chi.”
With the conclusion of Tap Night, induction weekend begins and so does the countdown for next semester’s tap. See more information concerning Greek Life on their respective social media sites.
