Fight Night SmackDown!
Homecoming weekend festivities began Thursday, Nov. 3 with Lee University Fight Night. For the sixth year in a row, clubs across Lee campus partnered with Five Point Boxing to host boxing matches between students.
This year, there were four matches with clubs such as Upsilon Xi, Alpha Gamma Chi, Delta Zeta Tau, Phi Chi Gamma, Omega Alpha Phi, Epsilon Lambda Phi and College Republicans.
“We are excited to be getting our name out there in Lee communities. This is the first time we have been represented at this event,” said Emma Fulsom of Phi Chi Gamma.
“Tonight is an example of how they fight for us and fight for their little sisters and fight hard for their club,” said Olivia Williams of Upsilon Xi.
The Mayfield Annex was full of students in various clubs eager to see the fights and cheer on their friends.
“Thank you to my coach. You took a guy who fought like a 13-year-old to punch like a fighter,” said Bryson Pisacano of Upsilon Xi.
Fight Night would be incomplete without the full size boxing ring, an announcer, the iconic bell, judges and paramedics on site to take care of these well-trained fighters.
“Nolan is really into fitness, and normally Greek life participates in Fight Night. We are excited to put our club out there and show our unique club’s fight and grit,” said Josh Wright of Lee University College Republicans
“It is an honor to represent this club and cheer on my friends in Epsilon,” said Sam Sands of Epsilon Lambda Phi.
“[This] would show how hard Whitney [Root] works for this event and also her relationships and this club,” said Sophie Fugat of Omega Alpha Phi.
Fight Night concluded with hope and anticipation for next year’s event which will host any club interested in partcipating.
Alpha Gamma Chi’s Ethan Hime even asked his opponent, Bryson Pisacano of Upsilon Xi, “You want a rematch?”
Rafael Santiago of Five Point Boxing helped coach these fighters and give them an unforgettable night in the ring. “They trained and fought great, but they gave it their all and that makes me proud as a coach,” he said.
