Three things for September 17
1. Lee alumna Brooke Simpson places in America’s Got Talent finals
Lee alumna, Brooke Simpson, made it to the finals and received fourth place on season 16 of the American competition show America’s Got Talent.
Simpson covered the song “White Flag” alongside the original artist of the song, Bishop Briggs.
The show aired on June 1, 2021, and wrapped up with the finale on Sept. 15.
Simpson previously received third place on season 13 of The Voice.
Other Lee alumni who have been on competition TV shows include Jordan Smith, who won season 9 of The Voice, and Clark Beckham, who was the American Idol runner-up in 2015 for season 14. More recently, 2020 graduate Jarod Herzog was in an early episode of The Voice.

2. ‘Kickin It for Kids with Cancer’ to be held tonight
The Lee University women’s soccer team will play the “Kickin’ it for Kids with Cancer” soccer game tonight, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. against Union.
The Lady Flames posted a video to express what this game means to them.
This year’s game is dedicated to senior player Riley Henry’s sister Haley as well as the honorary captain and Cleveland local Olivia Weatherford.
Proceeds will go towards the Austin Hatcher Foundation to help find a cure for pediatric cancer.

3. Buc-ee’s opens in North Georgia
The Houston-based gas station brand “Buc-ee’s” recently opened a location in Calhoun, Georgia, about an hour drive from Lee University’s campus.
The store will employ between 200 and 250 full-time employees at a minimum of $15 an hour. The new location is more than 53,200 square feet and offers 120 fueling positions.
The brand Buc-ee’s started in 1982 with the goal of providing “clean, friendly, and in-stock experiences” for all customers.
