Three things for October 1
1. Eminem opens Detroit restaurant ‘Mom’s Spaghetti’
On Sept. 29, Eminem opened “Mom’s Spaghetti,” a restaurant in Detroit.
Originating in 2017 as a pop-up shop, the restaurant has now found roots on Woodward Ave.
Eminem recently surprised customers by showing up to help serve food at the restaurant.
The restaurant is based on the song lyric, “there’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti” in his 2002 release “Lose Yourself.”
Menu items include Mom’s Spaghetti, Mom’s Spaghetti with meatballs and ‘Sghetti Sandwich.
2. Scarlett Johansson settles lawsuit with Disney
Scarlett Johansson, the actress who plays Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently settled her lawsuit with Disney.
The July lawsuit came after a disagreement between the star and Disney over how the movie “Black Widow” was released.
The movie was released on Disney+ for $30 on the same day it debuted in theaters, which Johansson considered a breach of her contract.
After the parties came to an undisclosed agreement, the star reported, “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney.”
3. Woman who survived 20th-century pandemic dies from COVID-19
Primetta Giacopini died at age 105 from COVID-19 after surviving the early 20th-century flu pandemic, as well as World War II.
Giacopini was two years old when her mother died at age 25 from the flu in 1918.
Her father sent her to an Italian foster family who then moved to Italy in 1929.
In 1940, Italy entered World War II, and the Italian government asked Giacopini to leave the country as an American citizen or be put in a concentration camp.
After leaving the country, she returned to Connecticut and, while working, met her future husband, Umbert “Bert” Giacopini. Bert died in 2002.
Primetta and Bert’s daughter Dorene was born in 1960. When visiting her mom in early September, Dorene noticed Primetta had a cough.
Though vaccinated, Primetta ended up in the emergency room with COVID-19 on Sept. 11 and later died on Sept. 16.
