2. Biden administration approves $1 trillion US bipartisan infrastructure bill
On Monday, President Joe Biden passed a $1 trillion US infrastructure bill with bipartisan support.
According to the White House website, this bill will deliver clean water to all-American families, ensure every American has access to reliable high-speed internet, repair and rebuild roads and bridges, improve transportation options for millions of Americans and reduce greenhouse emissions, upgrade airports and ports to strengthen supply chains and fight inflation, make the largest investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak, build a national network of electric vehicle chargers and more.
“My message to the American people is this: America is moving again, and your life is going to change for the better,” said Biden.
According to AP News, Biden hopes to build back his popularity with this bill after the threats from increasing inflation and health and economic risks from COVID-19.
“Folks, too often in Washington, the reason we didn’t get things done is because we insist on getting everything we want,” said Biden. “With this law, we focused on getting things done. I ran for president because the only way to move our country forward in my view was through compromise and consensus.”
This bill was passed on Nov. 5, but Biden waited to officially sign until legislators were out of recess.
On Sunday, Biden announced former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu will aid in managing and coordinating the implementation of infrastructure spending.
For bipartisan involvement, Biden had to cut his original aspirations for infrastructure spending from $2.3 trillion.
