Three things for March 23
1. Shooting in Colorado supermarket leaves 10 dead
On Monday, March 22, a shooting in Boulder, Colorado killed 10 people in King Soopers supermarket, including one police officer.
The suspect was identified as a 21 year old man and is currently in custody and receiving medical treatment. After police arrived at the scene, a shirtless man with blood on his legs was seen being escorted by officers. This man has been confirmed as the suspect.
In a news conference on Tuesday morning, authorities said they believe he is the only person involved in the shooting and that there is no additional threat to the community.
“This is a tragedy and a nightmare for Boulder County, and, in response, we have cooperation and assistance from local, state and federal authorities,” said Dougherty.
Since this event, the FBI has been working with the Colorado state police, and President Joe Biden has been briefed on the shooting.
Biden praised the heroism of slain Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, one of the 10 people killed in yesterday's shooting.
2. Tennessee expecting COVID-19 vaccine for all adults by April 5
The Tennessee Department of Health announced Monday all Tennessee residents 16 and older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine by April 5.
Tennessee has the third-lowest vaccination rate per capita in the country, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Alabama and Georgia are the only two states with a lower vaccination rate per 100,000 residents.
“Particularly in rural areas, in areas where there are communities of color, low-income workers and more rural conservatives, uptake is lower,” said Dr. Lisa Piercey, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health.
The state of Tennessee is expecting 311,000 vaccine doses to arrive within this week, which will be dispersed to counties based on population and need.
