Three things for April 15
1. Tim Kelly elected mayor in Chattanooga
On Wednesday, Tim Kelly was elected mayor of Chattanooga in a runoff election against Kim White. Kelly received 15,966 votes. White received 10,661 votes.
Kelly will officially take office on April 19 and plans to focus his efforts on COVID-19, homelessness and racial disparities.
“I am definitely an evolution rather than a revolution kind of guy,” said Kelly. “We want a smooth transition for the good of the city.”
During her concession speech, White said she called Kelly to congratulate him on his victory. She thanked her supporters and the community and called on Chattanooga residents to support Kelly as mayor.
2. Kim Potter charged with manslaughter for the death of Daunte Wright
On Wednesday, Kim Potter, the police officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright, was charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Potter, who has been a police officer for 26 years, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
On Wednesday evening, she posted her $100,000 bond and was released from the Hennepin County Jail.
Potter resigned from her position at the Brooklyn Center Police Department on Tuesday evening. Tim Gannon, the Brooklyn Center Police Chief, also submitted his resignation on Tuesday.
Authorities said the investigation of the shooting remains active.
3. Adams Perkins, musician and former Vine star, dead at 24
On Sunday, former Vine star and musician Adam Perkins died unexpectedly.
On Tuesday, Perkins’ twin brother, Patrick Perkins, disclosed his brother’s death on social media. The cause of death was not released.
Perkins’ record label, Plas Teg Records, will release his latest album, Latch Relay, on vinyl in honor of the musician’s life.
