Photo Essay: Dorm Wars 2021
On Monday night, Oct. 25, Dorm Wars returned to Lee’s campus. The night featured a couch parade, new obstacles for the teams and the return of traditional challenges. The teams competed in several challenges to claim victory for their dorm and win money for nonprofit organizations in the local community.
Dorms can win in two categories: spirit awards and overall winners. Spirit points are awarded to the dorms with the most creative themes, support of fellow dorms and altogether team confidence and encouragement of their residents. To win the overall competition, teams must win points in the mystery event, couch race and obstacle course.
Sharp Davis took home the overall win for traditional on-campus female housing and also placed first for the spirit award. The Simmons and Nora team affectionately referred to as Snora, took second place overall.
“There ain’t no party like a Sha-D party!” said Ainsley Droege, a resident of Sharp Davis Hall, as she celebrated with her dorm.
Medlin took home the overall win for traditional male housing. Bowdle O’Bannon placed first in the spirit award category. The men of B.L. Hicks and Brinsfield Row came in second overall for upperclassmen dorms.
Storms Hall and the ladies of Brinsfield Row won first place in the spirit award category and overall for upperclassmen female housing. New Hughes came in second in the spirit award category for their Toy Story theme and enthusiasm.
“It feels pretty surreal right now,” said Michaela Mackie, a resident of Storms-Field, shortly after the team’s win was announced. “There’s just so much excitement and surprise, but also, it feels really good because everybody put in so much work — so it just feels really rewarding.”
