Lee Health Clinic to offer COVID-19 vaccine
On Wednesday, April 21, the Lee University Health Clinic offered the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone over 18 within the Lee community. Director of Health Services Rachel Coffey noted the clinic plans to distribute more vaccines to students in the fall.
On March 23, the health clinic distributed 100 vaccines to accommodate eligible vaccine recipients. The clinic only had a week to prepare for the drive-thru vaccination site once approved to distribute.
“Brenda Jones and Amy Jo Perry, nursing faculty, assisted us on Monday with the vaccine administration. It was a great team effort, and we very much appreciated their assistance,” said Coffey. “I was so excited because we had been working on it for a while. My hope is to be able to offer them to students, employees and all of our [Lee] family.”
Due to scheduling regulations and vaccine eligibility, Coffey said it can be difficult to plan vaccination events.
On April 5, all Tennesseans 16 and older became eligible for the coronavirus vaccine.
“The federal government has asked us to make sure every adult can receive access by May 1, and Tennessee will beat that deadline,” said Gov. Bill Lee.
The Tennessee Department of Health announced it would allow all counties to move out of Phase 1c based on vaccination supply.
“Tennessee continues to see increasing supplies of COVID vaccines, which allows the state to rapidly accelerate eligibility to receive the vaccination. TDH requests every dose of COVID vaccine made available to the state,” reports the Tennessee Department of Health.
As vaccines become more available, the Lee University Health Clinic is looking forward to its future in helping the Lee community.
