Caf Hacks

Caf Hacks

The Deacon Jones Dining Hall, or “The Caf,” is the number one place where students of Lee University get their meals. However, the food can get repetitive. These DIY recipes create new meals with easy steps, all found in one place. The following Caf Hacks are meant to help students design and discover their new favorite meal.

Recipe #1: Loaded fries

This hack is simple and can be easily adjusted to fit one’s individual preferences.

  1. Grab fries from the Grill.

  2. Drizzle on sauces of your choice (Pictured: BBQ sauce by Papa Conn’s and ranch from the salad bar).

“I love the peanut butter and banana Caf Hack,” said sophomore nursing major Hannah Nee. “It’s different and unique. Making it reminds me of home.”

Recipe #2: Peanut butter and banana toast

  1. Grab a piece of bread from the Granary (optional: toast the bread).

  2. Spread peanut butter on your toast (located in the Granary).

  3. Grab a banana (located in bowls throughout the dining hall), and cut it up into small pieces.

  4. Spread banana out on your peanut butter toast and enjoy!

Recipe #3: Vegetarian charcuterie board

One of the healthier Caf Hacks, the vegetarian charcuterie board, is highly customizable.

Pictured above: peanut butter from the Granary, ranch and hummus — customized dips for celery or cucumbers from the salad bar.

Recipe #4: Chicken salad

This chicken salad option is a very popular Caf Hack. It can taste similar to a Zaxby’s salad if drizzled with Zax sauce.

  1. Make your own salad from the salad bar.

  2. Grab chicken nuggets or the meat from a chicken sandwich at the Grill. Cut the chicken up.

  3. Add the chicken to your salad. Enjoy!

Recipe #5 Fruit Loop sundae

On occasion, the Deacon Jones Dining Hall will have sprinkles and other common ice cream toppings. Though, more often than not, toppings are not provided. Combining fruit loops (from the cereal section) and soft-serve ice cream creates a flavorful alternative.

Recipe #6 Cookie milkshake

To make a milkshake, start by filling a cup one-third full of soft-serve ice cream. Next, crush up cookie pieces and sprinkle them into the ice cream. Fill the cup another one-third of the way up with milk (milk located at the Granary). Finally, grab a spoon and mix it all together, adding more cookie crumbles to the top.

Since my freshman year, I have been creating Caf Hacks in the Deacon Jones Dining Hall. I hope to leave some of my favorite recipes behind through this photo essay. These hacks are ways I have personally spiced up my meals in the dinning hall. I hope they will be enjoyed and personalized by Caf-lovers across the Lee community.
