On behalf of Buy A Tree, Change A Life, Lee University’s Dr. William Lamb and Nate Tucker recently donated $5,000 to Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Buy a Tree is a student organization at Lee University that has served the community for the last two years. Every November and December, the organization sells Christmas trees on campus. The money they raise is donated to a foundation of their choice.

“The whole premise behind the Buy A Tree, Change A Life is to sell Christmas trees and to get people to pay more than what they would normally pay for Christmas trees. [The] money is used to fund things locally, as far as missions, but then also globally,” said Nate Tucker, director of IT and Buy a Tree co-site director. “The focus is for kids.”

In 2020, Buy a Tree chose to give to CASA. They donated $5,000 to the local group. CASA provides local children with a court-appointed advocate to sit with them while speaking out against their abuser.

Buy a Tree chooses a different group yearly to donate funds. Last year, Buy a Tree raised roughly $13,000 in local sales.

Lee University offers volunteer opportunities to work with Buy a Tree by setting up the trees, talking to potential buyers and aiding the group in other ways.

“Because of the goodwill of others during the Christmas season, we are able to help children locally and globally through the tree sales,” said Lamb, director of the Leonard Center and Buy a Tree co-site director. “We look forward to the 2021 season.”
