Women's basketball in the midst of impressive season
The Lady Flames are in the midst of another incredible season, currently ranked No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference. With just eight games left in conference play, they hold an impressive 19-1 record.
The team’s only loss came to Valdosta State on Dec. 17, when they fell 68-74. Since then, the Lady Flames have won eight straight, including a win against Union College, who is now ranked No. 2 in the GSC.
Coach Rowe and his team learned from the loss against Valdosta State and have remained motivated to play the best they can.
“Right now the biggest thing for us is to work hard and not pay attention too much on the results,” said head coach Marty Rowe. “To be concentrated on the process of getting better and try to do their very best in the next month or so.”
Rowe continued to say the most rewarding part of being a coach is getting to see the team grow, improve and play at a high level. Coach Rowe said it is rewarding to see the team reach their potential every day.
Senior guard Abby Bertram and sophomore guard Haley Schubert both explained how they felt terrible about the loss against Valdosta State but knew the team could learn from that loss.
Senior guard Abby Bertram expressed that when the team works together, they tend to work harder and improve together. The answer to Lee’s successful women’s basketball program is their teamwork and dedication.
“It has been a fun season,” said sophomore guard Haley Shubert. “It’s exciting to see how close everyone is and how far we’ve improved as a team.”
According to Rowe, the main reason for the team’s success is not setting goals. He said goals only place limits on what they can achieve. All Rowe wants for his team is to improve every day and be ready for playoff time.
The Lady Flames take the court again tonight at 6:30 at Mississippi College. To follow the remainder of the Lady Flames’ season, check their schedule here.
