Three things for September 21
1. 2 dead after mass shooting in Rochester, New York
On Saturday, two teenagers were killed and another 14 injured following a mass shooting at a party in Rochester, New York.
According to the Rochester Police Department, at least 40 rounds were fired during the shooting. Captain Frank Umbrino says it’s possible the teens fatally shot were not the intended targets.
“Jaquayla and Jarvis were likely not the intended targets,” Umbrino said. “We have two innocent victims here who were attending a party with a few friends.”
The party, which started small, grew to around 200 people by the time of the gunfire.
Police have yet to identify any suspects in the shooting.
2) Zendaya becomes youngest person to win lead actress in a drama series
During Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, 24-year-old Zendaya made history after becoming the youngest actress to win outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role in HBO’s “Euphoria.”
Zendaya was nominated alongside Jennifer Aniston for “The Morning Show,” Sandra Oh for “Killing Eve,” Laura Linney for “Ozark,” Olivia Colman for “The Crown,” and Jodie Comer for “Killing Eve.”
During her virtual acceptance speech, Zendaya assured viewers there is “hope in young people.”
“I know that this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there,” Zendaya said. “I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people, and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets: I see you, I admire you, I thank you.”
