Three things for November 9
1. Biden moves forward as president-elect
President-elect Joe Biden is moving forward with his plans for the White House, even though Trump is currently fighting election results.
Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris are setting up a transition website and preparing his teams to work with federal agencies. On this website, there are four main issues Biden has promised to work on throughout his presidency: Covid-19, economic recovery, racial equity and climate change.
Biden and Harris’ administration promises to always “listen to science, ensure public health decisions are informed by public health professionals and promote trust, transparency, common purpose and accountability in our government” when making decisions concerning COVID-19.
Concerning economic recovery, Biden’s website claims Biden will “provide state, local, and tribal governments with the aid they need, so educators, firefighters, and other essential workers aren’t being laid off, extend COVID crisis unemployment insurance to help those who are out of work, provide a comeback package for Main Street businesses and entrepreneurs and immediately put people to work by enlisting them to help fight the pandemic, including through a Public Health Jobs Corps.”
Under racial equity, Biden’s administration promises to “spur public-private investment through a new small business opportunity plan, reform opportunity zones to fulfill their promise, make a historic commitment to equalizing federal procurement, ensure the Biden-Harris housing plan makes bold investments in homeownership and access to affordable housing for Black, Brown and Native Families and many others.”
Biden and Harris will work through infrastructure, auto industry, transit, power sector, buildings, housing, innovation, agriculture and conservation and environmental justice to work on climate change.
Biden’s inauguration is set for January of 2021.

2. Bear Brew Coffee rebrands as Cleveland Coffee & Market
Last week, Cleveland’s Bear Brew Coffee announced their rebranding. The coffee shop will now be called Cleveland Coffee & Market.
“At Cleveland Coffee & Market, our mission is to create community in downtown Cleveland, TN with an inviting space that honors its history by providing a non-intimidating atmosphere, serving the best quality treats, and sing our position to support other local and independent businesses,” says their new website.

3. ‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek dies at 80
Alex Trebek, longtime host of television show ‘Jeopardy!’, died Nov. 8.
Trebek hosted the beloved show for 37 years, and in that time developed a devoted audience of viewers.
In a video on March 6, 2019, Trebek announced he received a diagnosis of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
In March 2020, he gave a one-year video update on his status, noting that just 18% of people with pancreatic cancer live that long.
“I’ve heard from former contestants - even Watson, the IBM computer, sent me a get-well card,” Trebek said. “Now, obviously, I won't be able to respond to all of you individually, but I did want you to know that I do read everything I receive. And I am thankful for the kind words, the prayers, and the advice you have offered, and I'm extremely touched by the warmth you have expressed in your comments to me. I'm a lucky guy.”
After a long battle, Trebek lost his fight with cancer on Nov. 8, 2020.
