Three things for March 30
1. CDC issues domestic travel advisory for three states
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued a 14-day travel advisory for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as the number of COVID-19 cases surge in those areas. The CD'C urged the residents of those states to “refrain from non-essential domestic travel.”
President Donald Trump announced on Twitter he requested the CDC to issue a strong travel advisory.
According to the CDC, this advisory does not apply to employees of critical infrastructure industries, including but not limited to trucking, public health professionals, financial services and food supply.
The CDC has reported more than 120,000 coronavirus cases in the US, with more than half the cases in those three states.
2. Tornado hits Arkansas City
A tornado tore through Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Saturday, injuring at least 22 people and causing extensive damage.
City officials confirmed there were no deaths, and the injured people do not face life-threatening injuries.
Jonesboro Police Chief Rick Elliott urged residents to stay home as they work to repair damages and prevent further spread of COVID-19.
"We've already asked you to stay at home for this virus, but we're really stressing to stay at home," Elliott said.
3. UK orders 10,000 Dyson ventilators
British technology company Dyson has received an order of 10,000 ventilators from the UK government, following shortages of critical health supplies across the globe.
According to Reuters, Dyson has designed and built an entirely new ventilator called the “CoVent” to “address the specific needs” of coronavirus patients.
“A ventilator supports a patient who is no longer able to maintain their own airways, but sadly there is currently a significant shortage, both in the UK and other countries around the world,” James Dyson, founder of Dyson, wrote in an email to employees.
