Three things for March 3
1. Super Tuesday primary elections begin
Today, 14 states and American Samoa will vote in the Democratic primaries on what marks Super Tuesday for the 2020 presidential election.
Super Tuesday is an essential part of the 2020 election, as the 14 states voting give “one third of the delegates needed to win the nomination,” according to AP News.
This voting process narrows down the nomination for the Democratic presidential candidate for the 2020 election.
Current Democratic candidates remaining include Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and former Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Current Republican candidates include President Donald Trump and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, according to Reuters.
2. MSNBC host Chris Matthews announces retirement
On Monday evening, Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball” announced he is retiring. According to AP News, the announcement followed Matthew’s comment to Sen. Bernie Sanders comparing Sanders’ win in the Nevada caucus to the Nazi takeover of France.

Matthews opened his final show by apologizing for previous controversial remarks made toward women.
“This is the last ‘Hardball’ on MSNBC, and obviously this isn’t for a lack of politics,” said Matthews. “Compliments on a woman’s appearance that some men, including me, might have incorrectly thought were OK were never OK. Not then, and certainly not today, and for making such comments in the past, I’m sorry.”
3. Lee celebrates International Women’s Week in chapel
Students can celebrate International Women’s Week on campus with events held this week. Guest speaker LuAnn Holden will speak in Liturgical Chapel on Tuesday, and Patricia Nichols will speak in Conn Center chapel on Thursday.
