1. American cruise ship passengers evacuated from quarantine

On Monday, over 300 American cruise ship passengers arrived at military bases in Texas and California following a 14-day quarantine that began aboard the cruise ship on Feb. 5.

According to AP News, Japanese troops helped in the evacuation of 340 U.S. passengers from the Diamond Princess — 14 of whom tested positively for coronavirus.

Now, the passengers will undergo another 14-day quarantine process within the bases to ensure they are not at risk for spreading coronavirus.

2. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos pledges $10 billion toward climate change

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced on Monday he plans to spend $10 billion to fight climate change. 

“I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change,” Bezos said in an Instagram post

Bezos announced he will begin granting funds to scientists, activists and nonprofits who are working to preserve and protect the natural world this summer.

Bezos’ company Amazon is under scrutiny for its carbon footprint. According to AP News, Amazon officials said the company will shift its energy use entirely to renewable sources by 2030.

3. School of Religion to host roundtable event

Tonight, the School of Religion (SOR) is hosting a roundtable discussion on “The Boy Crisis.” The panelists will talk about discovering male identity, purpose and calling. 

This free event will take place in the Jones Lecture Hall of the SOR building from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
