Three things for February 10
1. Dr. Conn kicks off convocation week
Sunday night marked the start of Lee’s spring convocation services. Dr. Conn spoke in the Conn Center about the theme “vessels,” sharing what it looks like to navigate the storms of life with God.
“You need to go to the deep waters,” said Conn during his message. “You were made to achieve great things, to risk greatly and to find a light that you cannot find by hanging around home.”
Following a time of worship and the message, Paul and Darlia Conn were each presented with a Bible inscribed with a verse from Psalms. These Bibles are symbols of gratitude from the student body for the 34 years of leadership that the Conns have devoted to Lee University.
After the convocation service, a celebration took place in the Walker Arena where students and staff were met with food, music and a photo booth.
Pastor Tony Stewart will speak on Monday evening. Services are also available via livestream.
2. “Parasite” makes history at the Oscars
Director Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” made history at the 2020 Oscars on Sunday night by becoming the first ever foreign-language film to win Best Picture.
The South Korean film also took home the awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film.
“Just to be nominated was a huge honor,” said Ho during his acceptance speech. “I never thought I would win.”
Parasite is a black comedy thriller movie about a poor family becoming employed by a wealthy family household.

3. Possible recanvass of Iowa caucus results
A campaign official confirmed Sunday night that Senator Bernie Sanders is planning to ask for a “partial recanvass” of last week’s results from the Iowa caucuses.
This news came after the Iowa Democratic Party released updated totals on Sunday. Though the state’s caucuses were held last week, vote counts had many technical issues. The winner of the caucuses is still uncertain.
The updated results showed Mayor Pete Buttigieg narrowly in the lead with two more delegates than Sanders.
A partial recanvass would include a check of the vote count in certain precincts against paper records to ensure accuracy.
