Although spring break is an excellent opportunity for students to go home, travel or hang out with friends, many spend their break in Cleveland or Chattanooga, exploring the numerous activities offered near Lee’s campus.

Professors who call Cleveland home enjoy the local coffee shops and hiking spots. Associate Professor of Philosophy Dr. Timothy Miller plans to use the extra time for work and take advantage of any nice weather.

“[My plans include] a lot of catching up on my grading, and sometimes I catch up on work around the house or planting in my garden,” Miller said.

Miller also enjoys hiking when the weather permits and has a favorite spot across the Georgia state line.

Cloudland Canyon is one of my favorites — it’s got the prettiest views. They have a lot of different options, but they have a loop around the canyon that is roughly a five-mile hike … and sometimes we take the dogs out too,” said Miller.

On his off time from work or on cloudier days, Miller spends his time at Milk and Honey, a cafe located on the north shore of Chattanooga.

“Milk and Honey is a great place,” said Miller. “They have fabulous gelato. They have the best breakfast sandwich you can get in Chattanooga. I think it’s called the farmer’s biscuit.”

Cleveland native and sophomore biology major Alexis Griffey shares her spring break tradition with friends.

“I’m going to see ‘A Quiet Place 2’ because [my friend group’s] thing is … horror movies. We watch all the horror movies that come out — at the UEC theater.”

Senior classics and international studies double major Asher Johnson recommends a visit to the Hunter Art Museum.

“There’s an art museum with an art district around it; Rembrandt’s Coffee House is really cool there. If you’re in Chattanooga late, definitely go to the Yellow Deli because they’re open 24/7, except on the Sabbath,” said Johnson.

Johnson plans on spending his spring break outdoors with rock climbing trips to Chattanooga.

“I will probably go rock climbing a lot [at] High Point in downtown Chattanooga,” said Johnson. “I’m working some of [spring break], and then I’m going camping … at Parksville.”
