Opinion: The best 80s movies to stream right now
If you want to watch some of your parents’ favorite movies but don’t know where to start, this list is for you! It’s time to tease your hair, put on some neon clothes and live your 80s dreams through these classics.
1. “Heathers” (1989)
Winona Ryder and Christian Slater star in this 1989 dark comedy about a couple that starts murdering the popular students in their high school. This cult classic is available for streaming on Hulu and Prime Video.
2. “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986)
John Hughes’ “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is known as a love letter to Chicago. This teen comedy is about a high school student, played by Matthew Broderick, who skips school for a day in Chicago with two of his friends. This classic is available for streaming now on Netflix.
3. “Clue” (1985)
After the host of a dinner party is killed, six guests have to identify the murderer before it is too late. This 1985 mystery comedy is based on the board game of the same name. Part of the fun of “Clue” is that it has three terrific alternate endings! Available for streaming now on Prime Video.
4. “Say Anything…” (1989)
Cameron Crowe’s directorial debut “Say Anything…” is well-known for its famous boombox scene. John Cusack stars in this 1989 teen romantic comedy as a high school student who falls for the class valedictorian at their graduation. This iconic movie is available for streaming now on Hulu.
5. “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984)
Though all of the Indiana Jones movies are fantastic, Temple of Doom is my personal favorite. In this Oscar-winning sequel, Indie travels to India in search of a lost magical stone. All of the Indiana Jones movies are on Netflix, so if you haven’t seen them, go check them out!
6. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (1985)
In “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” a new girl in town joins a dance competition against her father’s wishes. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt, this comedy is full of 80s dance moves, fashion and heartwarming moments. This 1985 hit is available for streaming now on Prime Video.
7. “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” (1989)
In Disney’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” a kooky scientist accidentally shrinks his two kids, along with two neighbor kids, to bug size. This heartwarming family movie is full of laughs and terrifying ants. Don’t miss it on Disney Plus.
8. “Pretty in Pink” (1986)
Molly Ringwald stars in “Pretty in Pink,” a teen romantic comedy. This cult classic is about two best friends, Andie and Duckie, who try to survive their senior year of high school as outsiders. “Pretty in Pink” is available for streaming now on Prime Video.
