Lee will hold an International Women’s Week (IWW) Poster Session, an on-campus event celebrated on March 4 where students are asked to present posters on influential women in society.

Led by subcommittee member Julie Burchfield, the poster session aims to educate and invite discussion on IWW. Students are encouraged to submit posters on varying topics with the focus on a specific woman or issues related to women.

“This event provides students with the opportunity to become an integral part of the week’s discussions … The only requirement is that the subject of their poster and presentation somehow involves women and/or women related issues. Posters range from celebrating historical [female] figures to spreading awareness about current injustices against women,” said Burchfield.

Many students who have attended the event before look forward to revisiting the booths this year to see new posters and information their peers will present.

“This will be my third time going [to the event] since being at Lee,” said senior anthropology major, Amelia Wilson. “The poster event is one of my favorites because I always discover a new woman that paved the road that we are walking down now. We can always learn, appreciate and love more, and that is what [IWW] is about for me.”

Throughout the remainder of the week, events will be held from March 3-5 across campus where students can learn from female guest speakers and panels. A special liturgical chapel will be held on Tuesday, March 10 with speaker Dr. LuAnn Holden and music by Ladies of Lee.

On Tuesday evening, Dr. Carolyn Dirksen is hosting a Latte in the Library event. Guest speaker Chaplain Patricia Nichols will speak in Conn Center chapel on Thursday, March 5.
