Lee connects campus through livestreams and social media
While Lee’s campus is closed for the remainder of the spring semester, faculty and staff are working to connect the community virtually through Q&A’s with President Paul Conn, virtual chapels, small group discussions and a new show called “Some Assembly Required.”
Airing every Monday at 2 p.m. EST, Dr. Conn and Vice President for Enrollment Phil Cook livestream a Q&A session to answer students’ questions each week. Topics have centered around Lee’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, including graduation, refunds and summer school. Students can submit questions to studentfeedback@leeuniversity.edu to be answered in the following Q&A stream.
“My favorite part of the Q&A is hearing Dr. Conn share from his heart about Lee and our students,” said Cook. “In moments like these, his care for students is so evident, and I think all of Lee’s care for students is evident as well.”
Lee’s Instagram has engaged with students through recent photo challenges. During the challenge, two students were awarded Amazon gift cards each day for posting pictures with topics like representing a club, favorite faulty member or a Global Perspectives memory.
“We’ve created a few contests and student engagement pieces for Instagram stories,” said Director of Media Services Jeff Salyer. “Early on, we produced some behind-the-scenes content of the university leadership dealing with the crisis, video of faculty and staff making the adjustments to Zoom and living in a digital space.”
Lee’s creative content studio also started shooting a show called “Some Assembly Required,” which airs on Instagram every Wednesday at 2 p.m. EST. These short videos are posted every week with host Jon Bouvier, featuring a student with a unique skill, background or life story. In the first episode, Bouvier sat down with senior digital media major Grayson Russell.
“The media and marketing service team were tasked with producing content to pitch as a full-on episode,” said Russell. “This was special to me as it is the last thing I was able to work on alongside Jon, who has been a very dear friend throughout my collegiate career.”
As Lee continues to navigate the semester online and keep campus connected, past and present livestreams can be found at livestream.com/leeu.
