Brief: Lady Flames win Emory Crossplex Showdown
The Lee University women's track and field team placed first at the Emory Crossplex Showdown this past Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Lady Flames posted four event wins on their way to scoring 133.5 points, giving them a 50-point margin over the next best team.
The Lady Flames set program records in the 400-meter, mile, long jump and weight throw. Amber Littlejohn won the 400-meter dash with a Lee record time of 57.01, knocking a full second off her previous record (58.01) set last February.
Celine Ritter added another event win and school record in the mile run. Ritter crossed the finish line at 4:55.26, beating the previous mark of 4:56.81, which was set by Charlee Boxall in February of 2019. Ritter's time also met the provisional qualifying standard of 4:58.73. Chloe Flora (4:59.20) was second in the mile, and Boxall (5:06.14) was third to complete Lee's claim to the top three spots.
“I am really happy with where we are. We got a big boost in our throws,” said head coach Caleb Morgan. “Coach Wykoff is doing a fantastic job. All our throwers had big personal bests."
The Lady Flames will go back on the road this weekend, traveling to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the KMS Invitational on Sunday. The distance medley relay team will also travel to a meet in Boston on Saturday.
