U-Turn Institute hosts “Finding Life in Every Story"
The U-Turn Institute in Cleveland is hosting an event on Monday, September 30 called “Finding Life in Every Story.” The event—featuring Abby Johnson—will take place at Westmore Church of God.
The U-Turn Institute is a local nonprofit organization. According to U-Turn's website, “U-Turn promotes healing, hope, and happiness by providing a free and confidential environment where anyone is welcome to journey through their stories and seek out their personal ‘u-turn’ within their own lives.”
“We believe that the time is right to not only bring Abby Johnson to our community to highlight her story of personal transformation but also to raise awareness to what our community has to offer individuals and become more involved in supportive agencies of life,” said Ginger Robinson, Interim Coordinator at U-Turn. “We are partnering with four Lee groups: Delta Zeta Tau, Delight Ministries, Lee for Life and Sigma Nu Sigma.”
In a press release, U-Turn stated, “Johnson's story of difficulty and hope was recently highlighted in the feature film "UNPLANNED," a movie adaption of her memoir, that released earlier this year.”
“Along with Abby presenting her story, this event on September 30 will highlight multiple local agencies that assist with different stages of life from post-abortive care, unplanned pregnancy, foster care and adoption. Unity Dance Troupe will also be presenting a new dance specifically created for this event,” said U-Turn's Chris Schelich.
Senior English writing major Randyl Music said the event offers the opportunity to engage in a tough conversation.
“It is vital to offer events or outlets for the community because sometimes having the conversation is half the battle of overcoming self-imposed shame and guilt,” Music said. “These events also allow people to see other's vulnerability and strength to take the first step.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the U-Turn event on September 30 at Westmore Church of God. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and it begins at 6:30 p.m.
