Three things for November 26
1. Uber loses its license to operate in London
London has revoked Uber’s operating license over concerns about impostor drivers and increased risk of passenger safety. According to AP News, Transport for London cited “several breaches that placed passengers and their safety at risk” in its decision to repeal Uber’s license.
The company has 21 days to file an appeal. Operations will still continue during the appeals process.
2. Ebay to sell StubHub to Viagogo for $4.05 billion
Ebay’s ticketing business StubHub is merging with Viagogo, a European rival, in a striking $4 billion deal.
StubHub is an online ticketing company owned by Ebay Inc. that sells tickets for sports events, concerts and other entertainment events. Viagogo is a Switzerland-based company that also resells tickets, predominantly for sporting events.
Viagogo’s founder and CEO Eric Baker, who is also StubHub co-founder, said that it was his “longtime wish” to unite the two giant companies, according to AP News.
3. Secret documents released on China’s Xinjiang Camps
Chinese government's Xinjiang detention center has been on the spotlight for its claim of running a voluntary training school for Muslim-majority Uighurs. It is alleged up to 2 million mostly Muslim Uighurs and other ethnic minority groups are detained in the camps and forced to learn Chinese language and culture, according to AP News.
A six-page document published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) on Sunday reveals the government’s plan to construct facilities for the detainees.
