3. Controversial Vitamin Water ad resurfaces on the internet
Vitamin Water released an advertisement in 2011 that had several consumers upset. The advertisement included the statement, “flu shots are so last year,” claiming that ingredients such as vitamin C and zinc in Vitamin Water will help to support a healthy immune system.
The advertisement created such a stir that the National Consumer League filed an official complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. The NCL wanted to have Coca-Cola’s marketing claims for Vitamin Water investigated.
Vitamin Water’s ad was eventually banned for making “dangerously misleading” claims about the health benefits.
The controversial advertisement has recently made its way back online, frustrating consumers once again.
With flu season in full swing this time of year, many people on Twitter are explaining how the advertisement is old and was banned for poor marketing practices.
