Three things for November 12
1. San Diego State University suspends 14 fraternities
Following the death of San Diego State University freshman Dylan Hernadez, the school’s officials have suspended all Inter-fraternity Council-affiliated organizations, according to USA Today. The declaration has barred all the organizations from hosting any activities.
Hernadez attended a fraternity event that took place last Wednesday. He was taken to the hospital the next morning and bid his final goodbyes to his family on Sunday night. Authorities are still investigating why Hernandez required medical attention following the event.
University President Adela de la Torre released a statement on Monday attesting to the importance for everyone to “uphold the highest standards that do not put the health and safety of anyone at risk”.
2. New South Wales declares state of emergency
New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state, is facing “catastrophic fire danger” from its scorching weather conditions.
Officials declared a state of emergency on Monday after the surge of wildfires.
Schools were closed on Monday because of the increased fire hazards and the poor air quality levels, according to NPR News.
The catastrophic wildfire has left 3 dead and dozens injured, along with millions at risk.
