The men’s golf team finished the fall season with a 2nd place finish at the Matt Dyas Invitational and a 9th place national ranking.

The team finished in the top five at all four of their tournaments this season. Head Coach John Maupin believes this group of guys may be the strongest men’s golf team Lee has had in his 12 years as coach.

“The team is really trying to accomplish things we haven’t done before,” said Maupin.

The team most recently played in the Matt Dyas tournament and won 2nd place. They finished at 19 under, and Maupin believes they stayed consistent throughout.

Dylan Lillard, a senior business marketing major, won this tournament last season and came back strong again this year.

“The Matt Dyas tournament was a solid one for us,” said Lillard. “That was the best overall tournament for me this year and we had several members of the team shoot under par. The team has performed very well this year — probably the best since my time at Lee.”

“Something coach preaches is whether your bad golf can be better than the other team’s good golf, and I feel like that’s something that we’ve proved,” said Connor Pollman, a redshirt sophomore.

The team is ready to work hard to finish their year out strong next semester. The team’s goal is to win a tournament in the spring and compete for the conference championship.

“Obviously we have to play well again in the spring, but I feel like we have the guys to do it,” concluded Pollman.
