Lee alumnus surpasses Youtube milestone
Joe Jellison, a Lee alumnus, recently celebrated a 100,000 subscribers milestone on his Youtube channel — Chatt Cats Fishing. Jellison’s channel is focused on providing entertainment for those who enjoy fishing and being outdoors.
“I have a wide variety of ages that watch, but most of my views are from males in the 18-30 age range,” Jellison said. “I try to teach people how to catch big catfish while also producing some guided fishing trip videos.”
Jellison graduated from Lee University in 2010, majored in history and went on to receive his master’s degree in education. While at Lee, Jellison founded a wrestling club team, which he was part of for four years.
“Overall, I loved my Lee experience,” Jellison said. “[There were] plenty of great students and teachers.”
Professors at Lee are not surprised by Jellison’s many successes since graduating. Dr. Mike Iosia, chair of the department of health, exercise science and secondary education, recalls Jellison as a driven student.
“I’m not surprised by Joe’s success. Even as an undergraduate, Joe was focused, driven and sought excellence in all he did,” Iosia said. “What I love most about Joe is his winning mentality which comes from perseverance through difficulty … which specifically is ignited by his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Iosia attributes Jellison’s Youtube channel success to his passion and authenticity in everything he does.
“He didn’t start it to get 100,000 subscribers, but to share his joy and passion for catching those monster catfish,” Iosia said.
Regarding Jellison’s master’s degree, Professor of Education Dr. Gary Riggins sees the same work ethic in his master’s thesis — “Wrestling with Ratings: Perceptions of Athlete’s Attitudes and Achievement.”
“[His thesis] concluded that one’s attitude is strongly connected to his or her achievement,” Riggins said. “In our microwave culture, the old-fashioned notions of hard work, love and sacrifice are not that popular, but Joe’s achievements offer clear evidence of their effectiveness.”
