Lady Flames carrying momentum into conference opener
The Lady Flames volleyball team won two games as they hosted the Lee Invitational this past weekend in the Walker Arena. According to Head Coach Andrea Hudson, the team has shown improvement in many areas since last weekend’s tournament in Aiken, South Carolina.
“We had a few players really step up and show some improvement this weekend,” said Hudson. “More accuracy on our attacking and serving was the biggest improvement we hoped to accomplish.”
The Lady Flames began the weekend on Friday with a four-set win against Concord. The second match against Emmanuel continued their winning streak with a three-set win. The weekend was rounded out with a three-set loss against Shepherd University in the championship.
Bouncing back from last week's tournament was a challenge for the players, but they stepped up their game, losing only to the undefeated Shepherd University.
“We were ready to win,” said sophomore health science major Calina Croy. “We were ready to come in and beat somebody. It was fun being able to have a good hard win under our belt after those losses.”
Overall, the weekend was a major high point for the team. With conference right around the corner, improvement was the main goal. The team showed up and coach Hudson is hopeful for the rest of the season.
“I believe those matches were great to get us prepared for a very tough conference schedule,” said Hudson.
The Lady Flames begin their conference schedule against the University of West Georgia on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
