Flames sweep rival Shorter
Both the men’s and women’s basketball team walked away with a win against rival Shorter University on Monday night.
The Lady Flames 97-60 win against shorter brings their current win streak to seven. They now hold the number one spot in the GSC Conference heading into Thanksgiving break.
“This was a good win for us, for sure,” said forward Camryn Grant. Grant finished the game with a team high 16 points, also grabbing 5 rebounds.
“We did a good job. That's a tough team to play against,“ said head coach Marty Rowe. “The main positive thing is concentrating on what we’re doing, and trying to get better everyday.”
The Lady Flames will resume play on Dec.3, hosting Johnson University @ 6 p.m.
The men's team followed the Lady Flames’ lead, defeating Shorter University 75-62.
“The main thing for us tonight is that we had some areas that we wanted to work on and get better,” said head coach Bubba Smith. “I Think our guys are just focused on trying to get better and improve on defending and rebounding. Making that our main focus, for the most part we did that.”
The Flames’ leading scorer was Ryan Montgomery, who scored 20 points and collected 9 rebounds. Senior guard Parker Suedekem recorded 11 points and 9 assists, while sophomore guard Quay Kennedy ended with 14 points and 2 blocks.
“It's a big win. We let one slip away from us against AUM last Saturday, so we had to come back and make a statement tonight,” said senior Ryan Montgomery.
The Flames will resume play on Dec. 4 against the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, GA.
